Collection: Tie & Dye

Shibori and Bandhani are both dyeing techniques that use different methods to bind or stitch fabric before it is soaked in fabric dye. The fabric is either tied or bound in such a way that when dyed, parts of it remain isolated from the dye. Stitch Shibori is a traditional japanese method for creating patterns on fabric with dye by folding, binding and stitching it before the dye is introduced to it.
Bandhani is practiced in various parts for India specially Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. Here the textile is decorated by plucking the cloth with the fingernails into tiny thread bindings that form a design. It is then dipped in dye, washed and dried in the sun for a day. Once the binding threads are removed the pattern is exposed.
